Workshop13 presents a powerful night of live music and deep‑groove energy as DJ Baby Deer opens the evening, with a dynamic mix of dance‑floor music. This night builds to a full‑force headline performance by Shokazoba, returning to our stage with their unmistakable New World Funk sound.

Shokazoba (a Nigerian term meaning “shock absorber”) is an all‑original, award‑winning eight‑piece Funkestra known for horn‑driven grooves, polyrhythmic trance‑funk, and conscious, uplifting lyrics. Founded in 2005 as a tribute to Fela Kuti, the band creates music designed to uplift the body, inspire the mind, and ignite the soul, blending wide‑ranging influences into a transformative, deeply danceable experience.Shokazoba returns to Workshop13 for a night of high‑energy, horn‑driven New World Funk — joined by DJ Baby Deer, who will keep the room moving with deep grooves and dance‑floor magic throughout the night.

Their lyrics tackle meaningful sociopolitical themes with honesty and passion, while their spiritual, groove‑centered sound fosters a collective energy that fills the room. With multiple “Best of the Valley” wins, a New England Music Awards nomination, a Valley Music Showcase victory, and recognition from the African Jazz Review, Shokazoba continues to evolve with unmatched creative force. Approaching their 22nd anniversary and working on a new album, they remain one of the region’s most electrifying live acts.

Expect a night overflowing with rhythm, soul, and unstoppable movement — a performance that will leave you absolutely blown away in the best way possible.
