Drum & Dance Circle Meet-Up
Drum & Dance Circle Meet-Up
April 19 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
$5 -$15 Door Donation 7:00 – 9:00 *12yrs +
Join us for an all ages*, evening of drumming, dancing, and fun! We’ll play a mix of rhythms, including traditional African and Afro-Cuban. The drums we’ll use are mostly hand drums, such as the djembe, and African stick drum called dundun. Bring your own hand drums and small percussion instruments if you have them, and we’ll have some to share, too.
The drum circle is facilitated by Juan Cruz accompanied by drumming partner, Claire Pavlik Purgus. Juan and Claire have been drumming together for ten years and have learned from djembe masters, Ibrahima Camara from Senegal, Moussa Traore from Mali, Bill Scheidt from Tam Tam Mandingue Djembe Academy, and many others of the African tradition.
Beginners with no drumming experience and advanced players of all ages are welcome, as are folks who just want to dance!
Facilitator Bio
Juan Cruz has been drumming since his early twenties when he came to Boston from Puerto Rico to study architecture. He is co-owner of DAIQ Architects, a firm in Somerville, Mass., and recently moved to Ware with his partner, Claire, and their cat. He learned African traditional hand drumming and dundun for fun and has participated in hundreds of drum circles and workshops over the years.
