About Us

It takes time to know bread, and we’ve been at it for over four decades.

A family-owned bakery, Rose32’s owners Glenn and Cindy Mitchell started baking back in the 1970’s. They grew from one small bakery into a national company employing 250 people with four retail stores in the San Francisco Bay area, a distribution network delivering fresh bread daily to neighboring supermarkets, and a wholesale division that distributed par-baked bread in over 27 states.

The family grew as the business grew. Now all three Mitchell children have a hand in baking. Gracie, who studied culinary arts in San Francisco, works at Rose32. Kendra is a pastry chef in New York City, and Henry, a freshman at the University of Denver, can be seen selling Rose32 bread at the Farmer’s Market in Hardwick during summer vacation.

The master artisan at Rose32 is Glenn Mitchell, who studied and trained in both France and in the United States. At the international competition of Coup du Monde de la Boulangerie in Paris, France – known as the World Cup of baking – Glenn competed against the best bakers from all across the globe and team USA was awarded top honors. In the baking industry, Glenn’s name is synonymous with innovation and world-class skill.

Eventually the Mitchells sold the big business, moved to the small town of Hardwick in central Massachusetts, and quietly set about building a new type of bakery, one that combines decades of world-class know-how with a quaint, hands-on, personal approach of baking nourishing bread.
